Crisis business - we are opening a rental business for power tools. Business plan: rental of construction equipment Business tool rental pitfalls

How to open a construction tool rental business.

Rental centers for professional construction tools are quite a promising business; when renting out a tool, it pays for itself several times over, but this business has its pitfalls. In this article we will look at how to open a tool rental business and what nuances need to be considered at the initial stage.

.

First of all, you rent equipment that is required for one-time work, when it makes no sense to buy an expensive tool. For example, to drill holes in concrete, you need a heavy hammer drill; the cost of such a tool is considerable, and there is no point in buying it for work for one day, so such equipment is usually rented.

Also, if you need to solder polypropylene pipes in an apartment, you will need a special soldering iron device, but it also doesn’t make sense to buy one to solder pipes in a day, and then have it sit and gather dust. And this is the case with the rest of the tools, it is clear that almost every craftsman has a drill or grinder, but if we talk about, say, a vibrating plate or a parquet sander, then for one-time work it is understandably better to rent the tool for 1 - 2 days .

It’s not difficult to start a tool rental; you just need to register as an individual entrepreneur on the UTII tax and rent a suitable premises. Even a semi-basement in a residential area is quite suitable for a rental station. As an option to sublease, rent a corner in an already existing building materials or construction tools store, so you can significantly save on rent and attract additional customers.

First of all, the following tool will always be in demand:

  • Vibrating plates.
  • Grouting machines.
  • Heavy hammers and drills.
  • Parquet sanding machines.
  • Soldering irons for soldering polypropylene pipes.
  • Chainsaws.
  • Gasoline generators.
  • Concrete mixers.

You can also rent:

  • Welding machine.
  • Angle grinder.
  • Technical hair dryer.
  • Scaffolding and ladders.
  • Washing vacuum cleaner.
  • Circular table saw.
  • Compressor.
  • Laser level.
  • Jackhammer.
  • Drills and screwdrivers.
  • Wall chaser.
  • Jigsaw.
  • and other construction tools.

To keep records, you will need a computer to print contracts and photocopies of MFPs.

Since the instrument periodically requires repair, you will need space for a small workshop in the room.

It is advisable to have a car with a pickup body or a small cargo minibus; some clients also order delivery of heavy tools to the site.

Instrument rental terms.

A lease agreement is concluded between the tenant and the landlord.

The tenant pays the full rental price in advance for the entire rental period. Rental can be either hourly or daily.

The tenant must provide his passport, a photocopy is made of the passport, which remains with the landlord, and the passport is returned to the tenant.

A deposit is required from the tenant, the amount of the deposit is usually negotiated individually, if this is a regular client who has proven himself to be a conscientious tenant, then the deposit amount can be 20 - 30% of the cost of the instrument or just a passport.

For new clients, if the instrument is new, the deposit amount is the full cost of the instrument, used - 50%. The cost of a tool is calculated based on the condition of the tool; as it wears out, its value also decreases.

It’s up to you to decide whether to take a deposit or not, but as practice shows, those rental shops that do not take a deposit, but only a passport, are faced with non-return of the instrument or return in a damaged condition. It is quite difficult to collect the cost of repairs from the client later, and if a deposit is paid, then the cost of repairs is taken from the deposit paid in accordance with the concluded agreement. Therefore, by receiving collateral, you will insure yourself against unscrupulous borrowers.

Construction tool rental business.

To open a rental shop, you will need start-up capital to purchase tools; in addition, you must understand technology and have repair skills.

It is necessary to set prices for rental based on prices from competitors; the cost of rental is 5 - 7% of the cost of the tool per day. A Chinese-made tool pays for itself 2-3 times, a professional tool has a greater safety margin and pays for itself up to 5 times.

Additionally, you can provide services for repairing construction tools, selling spare parts and consumables for tools.

Pancake shop – we do business on pancakes.

Life is an unpredictable thing: you never know what will happen tomorrow. Perhaps you will do repairs, go fishing or start construction. Then you will need to be patient, and also the necessary tools - those that are required infrequently and the purchase of which does not justify itself. But, as they say, even if you are eaten, you have two options. So in this situation you shouldn’t despair, because there is help for you Reconomica .

This time we talked to a guy who owns all the tools that anyone might need in a certain life situation, and he is ready to rent out any of them. Read Ivan's story about how he brought to life his idea of making money by renting useful tools: construction, electrical, automotive, and others rarely used in everyday life.

How the business idea came about

The idea of making money on rarely used tools and devices came to me by accident. I was selling my car and when the potential buyer came to the “bride”, he had with him a device that I had always wanted to have. It was a car paint thickness gauge.

This device gave me the idea of my own business.

The buyer carefully examined the body of my car, came to the conclusion that everything was in order with it, and decided to make a deal. I asked him how much this miracle of technology cost, to which he replied that he did not buy it, but found a person who had the device and rented it for 500 rubles for one day.

And then the clink of coins and the sound of a cash register sounded in my head! “But this is an idea!” - I thought then.

Why not buy a similar device and rent it out to people who are planning to buy a car, but do not want to buy the device for one time? And how many other similar examples are there when rarely used things become simply necessary for us?

But the main question in my head was whether people were willing to pay rent for the things they needed for the short term.

Choosing an expensive tool at random - will the investment be worth it?

I didn’t think twice, and the very next day, having counted my savings (namely about 150 thousand rubles), I went to a store selling various tools and equipment. Wandering around the store, I chose those things that in my memory I sometimes really needed, but were too expensive for me to decide to buy them.

How to choose rental tools

Judging by the reviews on the Internet and those around me, I immediately realized that the main thing here is not to skimp. It was also scary to purchase the most expensive equipment, and my budget was designed only for average prices.

In general, I found tools on the Internet that suited my price and quality and ordered them from one of the most reliable stores in a neighboring city. Of course, I didn’t forget about the paintwork thickness gauge, which prompted me to come up with this whole idea and ordered it via the Internet.

I think it would not be amiss to name the rounded prices at which I acquired the assets of my small business:

  • the hammer drill cost me 11 thousand rubles;
  • heat gun with a productivity of 1000 m3/h - 35 thousand;
  • motor drill and augers for earth and ice - 20 thousand rubles;
  • - 9 thousand;
  • welding machine -15 thousand;
  • diesel generator - 40 thousand;
  • paintwork thickness gauge - 8 thousand rubles.

This was the set of tools I started with.

Safety first: I first tested the devices and took care of their safety

A good help for me was that when purchasing for that amount in a store, they gave me a 7% discount, and in the end I spent about 125 thousand rubles. I received all my purchases within a week and began to learn how to use them myself. After another week, I was using a trowel to handle welding and a lawn mower, and other tools.

And this is what a petrol mower looks like.

At this stage, I also realized that it would be important to take care of the durability of my acquisitions myself.

I began purchasing diesel fuel and gasoline from friends who drove special equipment at a low price but of excellent quality (from a general gas station). I planned to sell this fuel to potential clients at the same price, but as a prerequisite to guarantee long-term operation of my equipment.

First clients and first profit

I began posting advertisements for the rental of my acquisitions on social networks, running on local television, and even posted advertisements on boards and bus stops, poles and entrances.

I offered not only rental of these tools, but also assistance in performing work with them (counting on a female audience).

And so, after a couple of days I received my first money from this business. The man took the thickness gauge for two days to travel to another city and buy a car there. Here I had a little doubt about the integrity of my client and was afraid that the thickness gauge would go to waste. But still I decided on the following conditions: we drew up an equipment rental agreement, signed it, the man gave me a copy of his passport, 1000 rubles payment and 1000 rubles deposit. And everything went well. My thickness gauge came back to me like new.

A motor drill with an auger turned out to be indispensable

Literally a few days later, a woman approached me with a request to install 2 poles for her in a dacha near the city for a fee, and I gladly took on this task. Here my motorized drill with an auger for excavation work was simply irreplaceable. In the evening after my main job, I earned 800 rubles. Then this same woman, as it turned out, was lonely, having learned what other tools I had, she asked me to hang a cabinet in her bathroom at home, and in just 30 minutes I again earned 300 rubles. Things were going great.

Winter began, and my motorized auger with an ice auger began to be in great demand. Companies of avid fishermen rented it for winter ice fishing for 1,500 rubles for the whole day. Also in demand was a heat gun, which was used, for example, for rare work in unheated garages.

A motor drill with an auger is one of the most popular tools.

Result: how much did I earn in 4 months?

Perhaps I’ll sum it up by voicing the approximate amounts I earned. During the first month of work in this area, I managed to earn about 7 thousand rubles. For the second, having understood people’s needs a little and learned to offer services, I earned 14 thousand. In general, in 4 and a half months I managed to earn about 55 thousand rubles.

Of course, I remember to set aside about 15% of the money I earn for unexpected maintenance, and perhaps the purchase of new tools to expand the variety of equipment.

A tool rental business is an interesting option for investing small amounts. Use my experience and start in your city, good luck!

With the crisis, when the sharply rising dollar became an obstacle to most purchases, several profitable and dust-free business niches appeared. A striking example of such a business is the rental of construction power tools.

It is no secret that the majority of electrical goods sold in Russia are either of foreign origin or are assembled from imported spare parts. Due to this fact, the price of such goods increases in proportion to the growth of the US dollar. This became especially noticeable during the 2014 crisis. The doubling of the cost was an unpleasant surprise for most consumers. Previously, when the dollar was 30-35, buying a Chinese screwdriver for 900 rubles (30 dollars) was a simple and decided matter. If it burns out, it’s no big deal, but you can screw in a couple of screws! Today, few people would raise their hand to buy this “Shurik” for the same 30 dollars, but in rubles - for ~2100 rubles. Salaries do not rise following the dollar exchange rate.

Therefore, more and more consumers began to turn to power tool rental. This is a great way to borrow the necessary tool without spending money on an expensive purchase.

How to organize rental of construction power tools

By the way, you clearly have a question - why construction power tools?

  • Wide consumer audience. Due to the high cost of such power tools and the one-time need for them, most consumers pay attention to rental. It’s cheaper for them to rent a device for a couple of days than to pay several thousand (tens of thousands) rubles for something that is needed 1-2 times a year.
  • Compactness. Even powerful power tools are quite compact in size. Large warehouses are not required to store them.
  • Maintainability. Unlike gasoline tools, power tools are easier to inspect, diagnose, and repair. And the rental business will not avoid this.
  • Wider range. Almost any power equipment has an electrical analogue. But not all power tools have analogues powered by other energy sources.
  • Simpler storage requirements. Since you do not work with fuels and lubricants (gasoline, oil), you can even store such a tool in your apartment.

First, you need to open an LLC or individual entrepreneur. This will allow official commercial activities to be carried out.

Then you must decide how you will work, that is, where your storefront will be.

  • Or it will be a physical point. To do this, you need to rent a room (20-40 m²), which will be not only a showcase, but also a warehouse. You need to equip your premises - install shelving and counters. Which will entail additional costs.
  • Or open your website. To do this, you need a website, preferably with a detailed catalog, like an online store (for example, Insales allows you to create one for 199 rubles). Where will you display all your offers. This will allow you to save on renting and organizing premises (you will only need a room for storing power tools, or even in an apartment). Of all the costs - opening a website and photographs of your assortment.

Now, having decided on the form of your business, the question arises - What? Of course, you've already made a wide choice - power tools. But which one? There are beginner, intermediate and professional levels. Accordingly, the price also varies. The ideal solution would be to purchase a professional-grade tool. It has high performance characteristics and service life. But, it is expensive and this will affect the rental price. Therefore, to get started, a power tool in the mid-price segment is suitable for you. It will be less reliable, but will fully satisfy your target audience. Because your main clients will be individuals looking for a tool for one-time tasks. Professional construction crews usually do not use rentals.

Set aside a few hours and visit online stores with similar equipment. Explore their catalogs. This way you will find out which power tool is the most popular in your region. Buy 2-3 pieces of each type of power tool. A quantity greater than 1 will allow you to rent out one type of tool to a larger number of clients, which increases the loyalty of your clients - you have everything, they will tell their friends in the evenings.

Try to purchase tools from the same brand. This way you can get additional discounts from official dealers of the product and establish partnerships with repair shops specializing in this brand.

Power Tool Pricing and Protection

You can follow the established rule: the price of a day's rental = one twentieth (twenty-fifth) of the cost. Or, after familiarizing yourself with competitive offers, create your own tariff schedule, which will bring you profit. In any case, the price must be favorable to the consumer in the ratio - buy or rent.

So-called protection from unscrupulous clients must be combined. From the legal side: you must develop clear rental rules, enter into a property lease agreement, identify your client (that is, at a minimum, make copies of his documents, or take them as collateral). From the material side: take the collateral value. Of course, this will not protect you from theft, breakdowns and other unforeseen situations, but you will meet them fully prepared.

According to expert market estimates, the monthly profit of such a business is from 50 thousand rubles.

Where to look for clients?

The main task of finding clients comes down to popularizing your rental services. In addition to direct advertising: on the Internet, on bulletin boards, advertising publications in local newspapers, you can give non-standard advertising. Non-standard advertising can be - distributing leaflets near large shopping centers, car wrapping, organizing partnerships with repair shops: issuing replacement tools instead of broken ones at the expense of repair shops and many other advertising areas.

Since your services are targeted and necessary for the client, regardless of his location, with proper marketing promotion, your service can become in demand throughout the city.

Additional areas of earnings

You can get additional profit due to the diverse and varied services provided along with the provision of tools for rent.

  • Delivery of power tools. Make delivery of your goods within the city an additional paid service.
  • Sale, exchange and repair of used equipment. You can accept commissions, buy back old power tools, and provide repair services. And also, when expanding and updating your “park” of equipment, sell unnecessary equipment.
  • Tool Accessories and Fasteners. Typically the equipment is purchased by the consumer. Invite him to buy equipment from you. Save his time and make money from it. Sometimes selling equipment (or construction hardware) can become a more profitable business than renting power tools.
  • Additional construction equipment for rent. In addition to power tools, you can rent out additional equipment: ladders, scaffolding, winches, jacks, rigging equipment. They do not require large storage space or complex maintenance, but are very much in demand in private and low-rise construction.

Now, according to experts, household rental products are experiencing a rebirth. If in the era of socialism, city residents rented things that they could not afford to buy or get, now they rent things that are not practical to buy. Including construction tools.

There are 27 rental organizations operating in Yekaterinburg. About six of them rent out construction tools. “According to our estimates, 10-12% of citizens are ready to rent construction tools,” says Maxim Afanasyev, chairman of the Committee on Consumer Services (COBON) of the Yekaterinburg city administration. The main consumers of rental services are construction crews, gardeners and people making repairs in an apartment or cottage.

In the city center, demand is satisfied almost 100%, notes Mr. Afanasyev. However, according to KOBON, Yekaterinburg residents do not have enough small rental points “within walking distance” located in residential areas.

“The bulk of my client base is from nearby residents. I serve about ten people every day. And this flow is quite enough for me to work normally,” confirms the committee’s data Valery Khimchenko, owner of the Golden Hands rental store located in Sortirovka

Where to open a rental office?

It is not at all necessary to look for premises for rental closer to the city center, agrees Dmitry Golovin, owner of the “Rental of Construction Tools” chain: “For example, Uralmash is traditionally considered an area where home-made craftsmen live, who prefer to do housework with their own hands. Find a space in this neighborhood and they will become your clients.”

Even a semi-basement room will do. It is only desirable that the exit be on the street, and not in the yard. Room area - 40 sq. m. No longer necessary, experts say. “This is enough to accommodate the widest possible range of tools,” explains Valery Bannykh, owner of the Samodel rental company. “At the first stage, I removed only ten squares. Paid 4 thousand rubles. per month for rent. And that was enough for me,” recalls Mr. Khimchenko.

In the areas of the future rental point, it is necessary to place racks for storing tools (warehouse) and a counter (customer service room). The total amount spent on furniture is about 20 thousand rubles.

The set of office equipment is minimal: a computer, a printer, and one telephone number are enough. It makes sense to connect to the Internet, adds Valery Khimchenko, - this is one of the channels for attracting customers.

What tool should I buy?

Buying a tool is not a problem. “You open any catalog of construction tools and purchase all the items,” describes the ideal situation Georgy Sergeev, director of the rental point of the Instrument-Service company.

Dmitry Golovin conventionally divides the range of rental points into several categories: impact and rotary tools (wrench, jackhammer, hammer drill, drill, etc.); cutting and grinding tools (vibratory grinder, furrow machine, angle grinder, saws, etc.); welding, compressor and installation tools (lawn mower, paint sprayer, welding machine, etc.); machine tools and construction machines (vibrating plate, concrete mixer, parquet grinder, heat gun, etc.). The entire set must be present on rental shelves, Mr. Golovin believes. In total there are about 30 titles.

Owners of rental shops find it difficult to say exactly how many units of each type of tool need to be purchased. The assortment depends on the target audience. “If there are many summer residents among the clients, chainsaws, electric trimmers and other gardening tools will go with a bang in the summer. If there are more builders, then, say, jackhammers and grinders are in demand, while saws and trimmers gather dust on the shelves,” explains Valery Khimchenko.

As Dmitry Golovin notes, the ratio of tools used by clients and tools lying on the shelves should ideally be 90 to 10%: “That is, if there are ten rotary hammers in the assortment, at any given time nine of them should be in the hands of clients, and another lie in the rental so that anyone can come and take it.”

It is almost impossible to predict demand before opening a rental point, experts unanimously say. Therefore, Valery Bannykh recommends purchasing one unit of each type: “And then, in the process of work, focusing on the needs of clients, increase or decrease the number of tools offered.”

Since rental requires at least 30 types of equipment, you can count on discounts. Mr. Golovin says that not only wholesale suppliers are ready to provide them - regular retail stores also offer a 5-10% discount.

Many rental shop owners claim that they started with household tools, later expanding their range with professional equipment. The cost of both differs by two to three times. But professional equipment lasts longer and can be rented out to construction teams. Dmitry Golovin recommends tools from the brands Makita, Bosh, Dauer, Hilti, Kress and Milwaukee.

Depending on the chosen brand and technical characteristics, the cost of a set of equipment for rental varies from 500 thousand to 1 million rubles.

Advice from the company "Samodel":

“It is better that in the rental range each type of tool is of the same brand. When, say, one of your rotary hammers breaks down, you can use it for spare parts in case the others break down and reduce repair costs.”

Which employees should you hire?

The tool repairman is a key employee of the rental point, assure Dmitry Golovin and Georgy Sergeev. Finding such a specialist is not easy. Mr. Golovin: “This person will monitor the performance of the instrument and repair it as necessary. This means he must have a good understanding of all types of such equipment.” A foreman is a generalist, perhaps a former factory employee. The minimum amount of his salary is 10 thousand rubles. “It’s better to find a real master with golden hands and pay him 20 thousand rubles so that he doesn’t go anywhere,” adds Dmitry Golovin.

“If you purchase equipment from official sellers of large manufacturers who have service centers and provide a guarantee for their product, you can do without a repairman. In the event of a breakdown, the tool simply needs to be taken to the supplier - under warranty, it will be repaired free of charge. The warranty period is usually about a year. During this time, the tool usually wears out and is written off (it is simply thrown away or sold for spare parts).”

At the rental point, a specialist is needed to issue and receive tools. His salary, according to Mr. Golovin’s estimates, is about 10 thousand rubles. This employee will enter into a lease agreement with each client and accept money. However, at the first stages, the issuing and receiving of the tool can be handled by the master or even the rental owner himself, says Georgy Sergeev.

Dmitry Golovin continues: “Non-returns are the main problem of all rentals. The man takes the tool and then disappears. If you don’t look for such people and don’t oblige them to cover the costs of the rental point for the purchase of a new hammer drill or even a heat gun, the number of unscrupulous clients will grow exponentially, and the company will quickly collapse.”

Other experts doubt the global nature of the problem of non-refunds and the need to spend money on the services of a professional lawyer. Mr. Sergeev: “Non-returns account for a maximum of 2% of the total number of signed lease agreements. And in most cases, suing such tenants turns out to be impractical. If a pensioner rented, say, a heat gun, broke it, lost it, or simply did not return it, I will spend a lot of time, effort and money to oblige him through the court to compensate for the losses. Even if I find him and win the case, the court will oblige the pensioner to pay me money from each pension. The payment amounts will be meager.”

You can also do without an accountant, says Valery Khimchenko: “Usually rental companies are registered as individual entrepreneurs. Accounting is not so complicated that you need to hire a specialist. For example, I cope with these tasks on my own.”

How to introduce yourself?

A newly opened rental store does not need a large-scale advertising campaign, experts say. They advise using relatively simple and cheap methods of promotion. The ideal platform for advertising rentals is specialized print media, says Georgy Sergeev: “A small ad in Va-Bank Repair or BLIZKO Repair will be enough to get people to know about you.”

Information about the company can be posted on the Internet, adds Dmitry Golovin. In his opinion, it is not practical to spend money on creating your own website - it is enough to place rental details in city online directories (e1.ru, uralfirm.ru, BLIZKO.ru).

Advice from the rental company “Golden Hands”:

“You can notify residents of the neighborhood about the opening of rental services by placing an announcement on their electricity receipts. This service costs about 70 kopecks. for one ticket. This is how I advertised my rental. Receipts with my ad ended up in the mailboxes of all residents of the surrounding houses for 5.6 thousand rubles.”

When will the investment pay off?

Typically, rental companies rent out tools on a daily basis. According to Valery Bannykh, the standard rental price for one unit of instrument for this period is 8-10% of its market value. As a rule, clients take one or two units of tools for one day. But legal entities (mainly construction teams) can rent up to a dozen units of tools for long periods (a week or more). Dmitry Golovin defines the ratio of legal entities and individuals in his client base as 50 to 50. At the Golden Hands rental point, according to Valery Khimchenko, 80% are private owners, 20% are legal entities.

Rental offices do not take deposits. A mandatory condition for tenants is to have a passport with them. The document is photocopied or the data is simply written down, so that in case of non-return it is easier to find the unscrupulous client.

On average, one unit of instrument pays for itself and begins to make a profit within six months. “But this is not an absolute rule for all types of equipment,” explains Mr. Khimchenko. - There are “Cinderellas” - tools that are in crazy demand and pay for themselves in a month or two. And there are positions that can lie on the shelf for quite a long time. No one took my mounting gun for six months. And then, on the contrary, calls poured in from many people who wanted to.”

It's better to open in summer. According to rental and COBON owners, the peak demand for tool rental is from May to October. During these months, the new location can count on five to seven customers per day. Closer to December, demand traditionally decreases - to two or three tenants daily. The average bill is 500-600 rubles.

In a year and a half, the number of lease agreements concluded in one day during the summer period can reach 10-15, and their average amount is 1 thousand rubles.

According to Dmitry Golovin, it is usually possible to return investments in a rental point within two years. But if the owner is able to predict demand and purchases a running tool, he can expect to recoup the investment within a year, believes Valery Khimchenko.

Directions for further development

Many rental centers for construction tools sell consumables for them (drills, sanding belts, dowels, etc.), saving the client from having to go to the store. There are also those who are starting to sell the equipment itself. Valery Khimchenko: “When I started renting, I immediately noticed that some clients who used our service asked to sell them the instrument they liked. After six months of work, I rented a larger premises, purchased an additional batch of equipment and opened a retail store of power tools in the rented space, in addition to rental.” Since the rental company has already established connections with equipment suppliers and has built up a customer base, investments in creating a new line are minimal.

On other people's mistakes

Valery Bannykh

Owner of the rental company “Samodel”:

"In addition to non-refunds, A serious problem with tool rental shops is breakdowns.. Of course, the equipment simply wears out. But often clients break it because they are not familiar with handling techniques, and sometimes they do not even know the scope of operation of the tool. One day a dissatisfied client came to me with a broken drill. He was indignant, demanding that the money spent be returned to him, since he did not receive any results from the rental. I asked: “What were you drilling?” It turns out it's metal. The drill was intended for working with concrete and failed without making a single hole. Now, before handing over the tool, I ask the client a number of questions, find out how and under what conditions he plans to operate the equipment. If necessary, I will provide a short briefing.”

Valery Khimchenko

Owner of the rental company “Golden Hands”:

“Any manager of a rental shop will tell you examples when a client takes a tool and disappears with it forever. Since rentals do not take a deposit, non-returns result in serious financial losses. You can fight with unscrupulous clients: search for them for months, then go to court for years. During my work, I realized that the problem of non-returns can be solved through preventive measures. For example, I set strict rules. One of them is not to rent out instruments to out-of-towners. Most of my clients are residents of nearby neighborhoods. I know many of them personally, so I try not to give out tools to the unemployed or people with a dubious reputation.”

Entry price

Calculation for a rental point renting a room of 20 square meters. m in a residential area. The staff of specialists consists of two people (a repairman and an employee responsible for issuing and receiving tools). The rental opened in late spring and is visited by six people daily. Each client spends an average of 500 rubles.

Many people do their own repairs and do it very efficiently and professionally. To carry out welding, cutting metals, making holes in walls and other complex operations, it is necessary to use professional, expensive equipment.

The cost of such tools can reach tens of thousands of rubles, so the only correct solution in such a situation is to rent tools at a rental point. The cost of such a rental for 1 day does not exceed 3% of the cost of a new tool, so when you need an expensive tool, you can safely use the rental option to perform certain jobs. For entrepreneurs who decide to organize a tool rental business, they can guarantee high profitability, quick payback and small initial investments compared to other types of business activities.

Market analysis and relevance

The relevance of this type of business is beyond doubt, but before opening your own tool rental business, you need to carefully analyze the market situation. If there are too many rental offices in a given area of the city, then opening another one is a big financial risk. There cannot be too many clients who will use the services of a rental center, so if there are similar rental centers in one part of the city, the business should be opened in another area, otherwise the return on business will not be too high.

Registration and organization of business

Before you start leasing tools, you must register this business activity. The most suitable option for registering a rental point is an individual entrepreneur. When registering this form of business, you can significantly save on various tax payments, and the state duty for starting your own business will be only 800 rubles.

Premises, location and equipment

To open a tool rental shop, you need to select a place that people visit. A very good location for this type of business would be a place next to a busy highway. Many tools have significant weight and their transportation will cause some inconvenience if transport access to the rental point is not organized. You must select a room with an area of at least 20 sq/m2 so that you can accommodate the entire range of tools offered for rent. The equipment that needs to be purchased for rental consists of all kinds of shelves and display cases where the tools will be placed.

Purchasing tools

You will need to spend at least 200,000 rubles on the purchase of tools, but this money will be returned to the entrepreneur in full within a few months. The following tools are in greatest demand:

  1. Concrete mixers.
  2. Rotary hammers.
  3. Motor pumps.
  4. Gasoline and diesel generators.
  5. Welders.
  6. Chainsaws and streamers
  7. Measuring equipment.

These types must be available for rental tools and, preferably, not in single copies.

Do not neglect the small tools that may be needed while performing certain jobs. Various drills, screwdrivers, hacksaws, screwdrivers and pruning shears will definitely be in demand.

Staff

For a tool rental center, it is necessary to hire an employee who will issue tools and fill out the necessary documents. If the rental center has hundreds of types of power tools, then in order to repair and adjust broken tools you will need to hire a specialist who will repair this type of equipment.

If you have gasoline equipment, you also cannot do without such a specialist. If you turn to third-party organizations to repair broken equipment, you will need to spend significantly more money than if a qualified equipment repair worker is hired. In addition, a specialist working at a rental point will perform his functions efficiently, which cannot be said about repair shops that are interested in a constant flow of customers.

Even if the rental point is located in a crowded place from the first days of opening a business, it is still necessary to start advertising it by all available means almost immediately. Television advertising, despite high prices, allows you to achieve high rental attendance rates in a short time.

As a rule, all visitors are clients interested in this service and come to the center with the aim of renting one or another type of instrument. The rental service must have an Internet page on which the entire range of tools for rent will be presented.

The rental price for the use of equipment is assigned for the use of equipment for 1 day.

Placing advertisements in a local newspaper will be effective for the entire duration of the service. Such advertisements should be placed on the front page; in this case, the effectiveness of advertising increases several times.

Financial component of business

Like any other type of business, a tool rental service will require an initial investment. The minimum amount is 300,000 rubles. This amount will be spent on:

  1. Purchase of tools.
  2. Renting premises.
  3. Salaries to employees.

Such expenses are necessary to launch a tool rental shop, but at first this type of business will require additional investments to expand the range of equipment offered. You should optimize your business correctly and purchase only those tools that will be in demand. For some items of construction tools, the purchase of at least 2 - 3 copies will be required in order to fully satisfy demand.

Amount of future income, payback period

If all the preparation, organization and management of this type of business is at the proper level, then the entrepreneur will receive a profit that can amount to tens of thousands of rubles per month. For example, money invested in the purchase of a hammer drill or concrete mixer, when renting out this equipment every day for a month, will allow you to fully return their cost.

Other, less popular tools will pay back the investment within 2 - 3 months. Therefore, you can achieve full payback for this type of business within 6 months. Payback depends on many factors, including the season when the rental service was opened. If you start a business in the autumn, then you can count on a full refund of the money spent only by the summer of next year, because in winter the demand for rental tools decreases significantly.

For entrepreneurs who decide to organize a highly profitable tool rental business, it is recommended to spend the first profit on expanding the business and opening rental centers in other areas of the city. In this way, you can become a monopolist in this business and reduce the risk of competition. Constant analysis and optimization will allow you to have high profitability from each rental point, increasing the possible profit of a businessman many times over. In order to minimize costs, you can purchase tools on the secondary market. You can purchase a faulty tool for 1/3 of the cost, repair it and rent it out.

This type of business can be organized not only in large cities. If you open a rental point in a rural area, you can effectively rent out equipment for working in the garden or garden. If at the same time you do not overinflate the rent and deliver large equipment at the expense of a rental center, then in such settlements you can also count on high profitability of this type of business activity.
